Thunderstorms and tunnels
After a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the rain rolled in last night. As I left Lugano to go to dinner in Ascona, the clouds were beginning to appear, but it didn't look like anything too frightening. By the time, I was nearing Ascona, which is about a 30 min drive, it started pouring. Remember the car I was driving in was only a bit bigger than a Smart car. Luckily, right as it began pouring, huge rain drops, the longest tunnel appeared. "Thank God for Swiss tunnels," I said to myself. The miniature car's wimpy windshield wiper, yes singular, was barely making a difference. I went to visit my friend in Ascona that is a chef at one of the top restaurants in Switzerland. The food is to die for and the restaurant has an open kitchen with a food bar, almost unheard of especially in Ticino. It's fun to sit and watch the happenings in the kitchen, and they're famous for this magnificent seabass dish, where the whole fish is cooked in the oven in a crostata. The process they go through is spectacular. The kitchen also has a special feel, so international, with all the cooks speaking different languages. Besides that minor detail you feel like you are in a busy NY restaurant. One of the only places nearby that has more of a fun atmosphere! Love it...
