Mykonos

We left Santorini midday on the high speed ferry for Mykonos. It was much different than our ferry from Kos to Santorini, which was nice because we needed to experience the different ferries. This one was more like a hydrofoil and you had assigned seats. The best part was they asked if we were Brazilian as we boarded. We thought Dutch was exciting enough, but Brazilian was much better. I think it must have been the tan we got in Santorini. As we started out I began reading, which I quickly stopped as the boat became rockier. We had a surprise visitor on the boat that got on at Ios, which was a fun surprise. The boat ride was only a few hours and we when we departed the wind was blowing so strong and the noise from the engine of the boat made it so you literally couldn't hear anything. We quickly disembarked and made our way to find the hotel guy that was picking us up. I immediately spotted the Mark Ruffalo look alike and Ash and I both started smiling. Not sure why I still think valet parkers and hotel pool boys are cute. We waited for a few minutes for the other guests to arrive and then suddenly the look alike handed us over to another man who showed us to his NICE Mercedes. It was obviously our lucky day. As soon as we started driving he said just that, "so I think it's your lucky day." They claimed since we booked on Expedia they were upgraded us to their nicer property, called the Royal Myconnian Ambassador. We had a spectacular room, enormous, with a big balcony that had a complete ocean view. That afternoon we walked down the beach to a bar playing loud music and full of an interesting group of men and a group of gay men. We could definitely tell we had arrived in Mykonos.
That night we went with Kostas and Nick to a small Taverna for some Mythos and then another Taverna called Nikos (yes, another one) for dinner. We were becoming expert Greek food connoisseurs. After dinner we went to a bar to grab some drinks before our big night out at one of the Mykonos clubs, called Space.
We stopped by a little bar to enjoy a few Mythos beers and then went to a more lively bar and decided to try their cocktails. Cocktails are just never the same in Europe. The thing about being is Europe is yes everything is charming and sometimes different, but with America having everything these days sometimes Europe just can't compete. Not to say that I don't love the charm and uniqueness. After meeting everyone in the bar and Ashley pushing a lamp over a man's bald head we headed to the club called Space at about 1am, which was REALLY early in Greek standards. On the way, we stopped and had a roady...a Smirnoff ice from a small stand. I hadn't ever tried one and Nick thought it was a must. We (Ashley and I) got into Space without paying a cover, after she tried to convince the bouncer we shouldn't have to pay at all, I mean it's not Hollywood or Miami. The lady claimed, "but it's Mykonos!" I mean what better party scene can you find! The boys had to pay and when we entered it was almost empty. We entertained ourselves with a few more drinks and slowly the club started filling up. The clientele was beyond interesting. Ashley made lots of new friends talking to a guy with a ___shirt and a woman with a hot pink number on and hair down to her bottom. It wasn't until the dancers came out that we really felt like we were in Greece. The lights dimmed and five dancer, including one male appeared above the bar. I was mesmerized! At about 3am we decided to call it a night and grab some of the best gyro on the island. Nick started by ordering one and we were going to share, but a few minutes later we each had our own since they were literally to die for. The next morning, we had to sleep in late and then decided to enjoy the hotel pool since it was gorgeous and overlooked the sea. After a relaxing day, we headed back to town and tried a different Taverna, appropriately named Kostas. There just really aren't that many different Greek names, and you seem to see and hear the same ones often. The best part was that we were with Nick and Kostas. The whole group decided that even though the waiters weren't the nicest, Nikos definitely won the Greek food contest.
