After a 6 day hiatus, I am now back in Lugano and it's pouring...something new. It's actually quite relaxing, the only bummer is that the weather channel says heavy rain for the next week. That part does not make me happy. I had a few days off school this week for our Fall Break, and luckily my mom decided to come visit and we made it a mini vacation. She arrived in Lugano on Wednesday and we spent Wednesday and Thursday here. The weather wasn't the best, but I still had time to show her around and visit a couple of my favorite spots and restaurants. She came to my classroom the first day, met all my students, and then we went to dinner at one of the cute Italian places called Argentino in Piazza Riforma downtown. We split a thin crusted pizza with lots of rocket, or rucola. Thursday, my mom was on her own and with my good directions and her adventurousness she had a fun filled day in Lugano...lots of walking and even a little sunshine. That night we headed to Morcote so she could experience the amazing risotto. Before dinner, we walked down to Principe, the nice hotel, enjoyed some wine and a foggy view and then toured the spa there to see if it would be worth going to. It was definitely nice, very intimate for a couple! From there, we stopped in a couple of the few bars in Lugano and met some friends having dinner at one of the only Sushi restaurants called Sushi Samba. It is not exactly Zenbu...but I'm not I'll be craving it at some point. Friday morning we took a long walk down from my apartment along the lake, and then had coffee and a brioche at one of my favorites places downtown called Munger, a little patisserie. About midday we heading out to our first stop, a town called Ranco in Lake Maggiore. On the way, we stopped at the outlet center here called Foxtown. There are a variety of stores and most of them have relatively good deals. The best was Gucci!
